Around Town

Just thought I'd share what I've seen around town lately. Most items I've passed on but I love showing you all the potential that vintage items hold. Running short on time so I'll post tomorrow on how these are used.

HUGE faux bamboo mirror! To die for price!......I passed :(
I'm not sure your thoughts but this was molded plastic and I just don't think it seems that substantial. Painted this guy could be a beaut. I really need to have measurements handy. I've been searching for a non-typical mirror for our bathrooms and this would've been great. Only problem is without dimensions I figured it was too tall to fit under our wall mounted light fixture. Oh, well.

If you have hear or SEEN brass is coming back in a big way. I thought these bow and tassel brass sconces would look great in our master bath on either side of the oval mirror we have. At $3.93 for the pair I'm thinking I should have swung for these.

Spotted these sweet vintage Ferragamo navy snakeskin flats. I know you're thinking I got these, right??
I passed. I know I know...they were more worn in person and the bottom was black foam. Pretty none the less.
LOVE LOVE LOVED this long sofa. It had a slight curve and the tufting was gorgeous. Fabric was in ok condition but looked a little dirty and maybe for some reason I have a recollection that it had a smell. Anywho, it would be fab recovered.

I'm just now decorating our house for fall. Nothing like a looming Halloween party to get you rear in gear. So needless to say I was stoked when I spotted these heirloom pumpkins last night at WALMART. I was floored! And the price...ahhhh Wally-world can't be beat.  I did my own little take on this month's Southern Living Spread. If only I had a entry like this to work with!

Anyone else find any fun treasures lately?? I'd love to hear/see!

XOXO,
Rebekah

Fall...back on the wagon

Hello?? Anyone still here?.....

Yeah didn't think so ;)

Can't believe my last post was in May! I've told several folks in the shop that I tend to do really well at one thing (aka Facebook...much better updating this lately) and neglect the other (ummm the blog, duh!). We'll I'm BACK! Instead of the loading the FB page down with images and thoughts I'll try to do a better job of making additional information available on what's happening around the shop and other personal updates here on the blog. Here's a photo log of what I've been up to.

Liberty Antique Festival
Twice annual antique fest on a gorgeous 100 acre farm.

Hour early and there was already a line.
Thoughts for next year...get there a few minutes after it starts. It wasn't a running free-for-all like a thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong early bird gets the worm but, it wasn't like the crazies on Black Friday.

It was a beautiful morning!

Couple of shots of items I LOVED but didn't get.
Purple bottles! So pretty in person. The price however...NOT cheap. I'll have to do my research on these since it was my first time eyeing them.
Sweet little chandelier. Should have gotten the oars for the shop but I was on overload and forgot to go back. Another note to shelf. If you see something you like photograph and write down the booth location! One can get mighty turned around with all the stuff to be seen.

Really really wanted this industrial ladder to go with my awesome industrial warehouse shop with exposed brick, high ceilings with the original tin tiles (ok this is only in my dreams...Calabash doesn't quite have anything like that). We passed because we didn't want to store in the mean time, waiting and hoping for said warehouse to magically appear. Also, not sure it would have fit in the minivan.

Black and white transfer ware! Ahhh it was love at first sight. I have this thing for toile, palm trees, chinoiserie. I really needed these.Once again need to research these. Price was around $15 to $20 a plate (I think, maybe more) and I know a lot of the more popular antique dishes are knocked off. Don't mind knock-off sometimes but I don't want to pay the REAL deal price and get the imitation.

This moose rack was HUGE! I only wish I had gotten a shot of the rest of the booth. So many neat things and the guy running it was awesome himself.

Thought this zebra lamp was mighty fun, However, it was $60 and it had to be rewired. I passed.
All in all Liberty was a blast. It was great to have a change of scenery from the beach. The weather was great a little warm but I'm not complaining. I almost fainted though when my husband actually said he was enjoying himself! HA! Slowly but surely he is coming around to the dark side :)

In other musings, I spotted this faux bamboo dresser, mirror and full/queen headboard around town.
Great price but the drawer faces were plastic and in my opinion needed to be repainted. Great deal for someone to fix up but I decided to pass.

There as been and lot of buying, selling and passing here and I promise to do a better job of showing you what we've be up to.

Anyone else been antiquing or treasure hunting lately?

Love,
Rebekah

P.S. Don't tell my husband but the hunt (aka the shopping part) is my favorite!

Going BANANAS!

I don't know what is it but I'm bananas for banana leaf prints lately!
From my light research it appears it all started HERE.

In this April 25, 2012 photo, the entrance to the Beverly Hills Hotel is seen in Beverly Hills, Calif. The Beverly Hills Hotel is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Photo: Matt Sayles / AP

It also seems that I'm not the first (and surely not the last) to be obsessed with this iconic print.
Check out these other posts about the leafy print!

Quadrille Bandwagon

How did I not know about this company?? In the past few days I keep coming across articles and blogs referencing Quadrille.

I had no clue! (pretty sure I've been living under a rock)

Ahhhhh Love it!! So giddy with the pretty fabrics and wallpapers (I hope I'm not the only one who gets this way about design stuff...I'm pretty sure I'm not).

I know I'm probably wayyyyy behind on this but I just had to share.

Check on more pictures and patterns here! Quadrille

The Simple Life

No this is not about Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie.

Throw back much though, huh? Can you believe that was almost 10 YEARS AGO...woahhh time warp.
I had to think for a moment what The Simple Life referred to (hmmm I think the 10 years are getting to me).

Thought process on The Simple Life went as such:

Ok, huge pile of laundry in the corner of the bedroom, three bins on the washer, drying rack full and STILL clothes to wear in the closet and dresser. Ahhhhhh it's a monster!

So since I've already put the lamp post on the back burner. What better time that now to talk about paring down. Which, mind you is much easier said than done (you know this if you have ever tried).

About every three weeks I decide, "Ok, today is the day! We are cleaning out the closet!".
I get all excited about the new life I'll live with limited options and much more time on my hands because I didn't waste it digging through clean and dirty laundry that has now been mixed together or staring blankly into closet until that PERFECT outfit jumps out at me.

On that day I'm solving all my problems. No more running late, no more procrastinating on the gym, no more laundry piles. All in all a better world. Heck, with all my new found free time I might even be able to solve everyone else's problems!

But here is what the enthusiasm ends.....

I jump into the process and I get bogged down. I start second guessing decisions. Like, "This white t-shirt is so cute and sooo comfy, sure I don't wear it a ton but I might should the right time come up. I'll just move it to the PJ drawer for now. Ok, next item".

And it goes on and on like this. Until maybe an hour later I look at my "to go" pile and realize there is one measly item in it. One item...I mean come on. There has to be something else. And then the process kind of fizzles out. I decide, maybe its not so bad.  I'll just do a better job of keeping up with the laundry and I'll make sure to wear some of those cute t-shirts I never seem to get to and everything will be all better.

WRONG!

The whole things just starts all over again like ground hog day. Three weeks later I'm in the same position I was three weeks earlier. Up to my ears in clothes.

So today I'm taking a vow. Or is that making a vow. To take that faithful leap into the simple life.

I've heard (ok more like read) that paring down is liberating. You won't even miss those things you've decided to part with. Oh and my favorite, now you can refill your closet with classic pieces that fit great (shopping trip anyone). I mean who wouldn't want this??

Apparently, me. Since I can't seem to make it happen. It all ends this month though. As yall are my witness' I'm going to work on REALLY cleaning out the closet and only keeping the items that regularly get thrown in the wash cycle. Since to me this means I must like them.

Come June I should be singing the simple life praises and hopefully spending a lot less time laundering and a whole lot more time living.

So until June if you're looking for me, don't forget to the check the closet.

A snails pace

Ok is it just me or does it take you forever to put together a blog post??

I know I know...not one like this, but an informative post?? I think I must be a snail or a tortoise crossing the road.

Post on lamps to follow...if the tortoise ever crosses the street.

Or is that a chicken.

May Day

Happy May Day!

What is that you say?..May day??

Not MAYDAY, MAYDAY the emergency call but May (as in the Month) and day (as in today..duh!)

Yeah, I didn't know either so I took it upon myself to look into it.

So after a lengthy description on Wikipedia here is what I learned (written in short hand and in my terms):

May Day was a pre-Christian celebration. Not as popular as it once was and involves dancing and a tradition of leaving flowers on doorsteps. Welcomes the coming of spring fertility and something about crowing a May Day queen and a May pole.

I like the sound of flowers on random doorsteps and someone being named queen.
So in honor of May Day I think I will purchase some new flowers for the house to celebrate!

Did you grow-up celebrating May Day or do anything special on May 1st?
