Happy May Day!
What is that you say?..May day??
Not MAYDAY, MAYDAY the emergency call but May (as in the Month) and day (as in today..duh!)
Yeah, I didn't know either so I took it upon myself to look into it.
So after a lengthy description on Wikipedia here is what I learned (written in short hand and in my terms):
May Day was a pre-Christian celebration. Not as popular as it once was and involves dancing and a tradition of leaving flowers on doorsteps. Welcomes the coming of spring fertility and something about crowing a May Day queen and a May pole.
I like the sound of flowers on random doorsteps and someone being named queen.
So in honor of May Day I think I will purchase some new flowers for the house to celebrate!
Did you grow-up celebrating May Day or do anything special on May 1st?
